Umayumay's work has always struck me as something quite unique. Her photos give a very surreal feel with it's own dreamlike atmosphere, beautifully color conscious accents, and ambiguous characters in various motions and poses. Plus the fact that some of them are not even photo-manipulated make it even more impressive.

Nadidah 1.Who is umayumay?
Umayumay: umay umay makes music - poetry writer - an Anatolian woman photographer. The most prominent feature of that woman; difference and reliability.
Nadidah 2.Who are your frequent collaborators

and

and how did you all meet?
Umayumay: We meet in deviantart.com and been working together for a long time. Melike is photographer, Oğuzhan is a musician.
Nadidah 3.How would you describe the groups creative process? (Is it a group effort where everyone puts in their own ideas? Are the shots preconceived before a photo shoot or is it more of an impulsive approach?)

Umayumay: We have a very good connection with spiritually, there is a very good agreement between them and me. and so, technical issues do not matter. For us impulsive approach is, the similarity of our souls. All that is uniform far for us. We did nothing about any planning before photo shoots!
Nadidah 4.I've always felt like your shots were very dream like and have a sort of quiet narrative about them. Very noir too.

Is there anything in particular you're trying to show through your artwork?
Umayumay: I can live without sing a song, but I cant live without writing and taking pictures for such a long time. Each photo is actually telling a loneliness. Crying, Laughing, Joy, uyuyayan, uyuyamayan ... etc. but alone! Even loneliness can not fully answer some of the spirits, and so does art. I got to be one of them. Hush and do. I really like it. Even if I do not enjoy receiving comments. Do not you see my photos in loneliness? I take the same thing in every frame.

Nadidah 5.Just out of curiosity, why the hidden faces?

Umayumay: I always took the fact for the story of my own soul. Yes I using the model, but in fact I take myself. I'm staying surprised when I saw their faces because it is not my face. When I was a child, my father always wanted to leave the house. At moments like that, I would turn off my face with my sweater or anything for seeing nothing. Like a trauma. Combined, these two causes, I chose do not use faces to express. I choose not to show my face.

Nadidah 6.What do you draw on for inspiration?
Umayumay: Music is what most impressed, and words, even letters. I have been feeding myself. My own life, my own soul. and love of course... Without love, I am nothing. Without love; I am crude, ordinary, miserable. Yes, my most influenced things are music, love and my soul.

Nadidah 7.Who (or what) do you feel has made a really huge impression on you?
Umayumay: Red. I've been affected since the day I saw red. I think I opened up.
Nadidah 8.What would you say is your biggest fear?
Umayumay: Needle's, and sharp, stinging everything. The needles into my skin. There is fear of very large needles and syringes. I think, I didnt become a junkie because of this fear. I think my god saved me from this, the most rascal thing in life, with this fear. Seriously. I do not want to give rise to misunderstanding, I said this because I saw two most worst things in the world; heroin and terrorism.

Nadidah 9.What would you say is your biggest ambition?
Umayumay: When I am dead, I want to be a remembered like that; that woman is a very big-hearted woman.
Nadidah 10.What is it you find so intriguing about art?
Umayumay: Pride. Truth. Love. Laith. Much importance to these four emotions, and every day to stay like that. I'm thinking, training. and red of course.

Nadidah 11.Last question, What is your favorite placebo song?

Umayumay: Protect Me From What I Want
